Privacy policy
Gamershelf is a small site run by one person. It keeps only what it needs to show your shelf, and it doesn't sell your data or show ads. Here's exactly what that means.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, and your password in scrambled (hashed) form if you use one. If you sign in with Google or Discord, we get your email and the name on that account.
- Your profile: your username, display name, birth year (if you give it, to pick the right era of games in Discover), the consoles you owned and who can see your shelf.
- Your shelf: the games you've answered (played, never, play later), their order, the picks you made in Versus, stars, notes, the console you played each one on, and how you've dressed your shelf.
- Social: who you follow, and the posts and activity in your feed.
- The daily game: your results for each day, for your streak.
- In your browser: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in, and a few preferences saved on your device (like shelf or stack view). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Server logs: our host keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to run the site and stop abuse.
Who can see it
You choose in Settings. A public shelf, with your username, display name, ranked games, stars, notes, consoles, level and activity, can be seen by anyone, including search engines and in share pictures. Friends only shows it to people you follow who follow you back. Only me hides it from everyone else. Games you hide stay off what visitors see. Your email address, birth year and the games you marked “never played” are never shown to others.
Who helps run Gamershelf
We share data only with the services the site runs on, and only what each one needs:
- Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Resend sends sign-up, sign-in and password emails.
- Cloudflare runs our domain name and forwards email sent to us.
- Google and Discord, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- IGDB (Twitch) provides game details, covers and trailers. It never receives your personal data. Trailers play from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, which only loads when a trailer is shown.
These services may process data in the United States. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We would only share it if the law required us to.
Your choices
- See and download it: Settings → Download a copy gives you your whole shelf as a file.
- Change it: edit your profile, visibility and shelf any time.
- Delete it: Settings → Delete account removes your account, shelf, notes, follows and posts. Backups kept by our database provider roll off within a few weeks.
- Ask us: for anything else, email hello@gamershelf.tv.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete it, your data is deleted too.
Children
Gamershelf is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Keeping it safe
Connections are encrypted, passwords are never stored in readable form, and the database only lets each person change their own shelf. No website is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care, and we'll tell you if something goes wrong that affects your data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top, and for big changes we'll let you know on the site or by email.
